Our brilliantbarneggs
Looking to the future
Our five-year plan
In 2024 we began implementing our cage-free programme, and plan to stop producing enriched colony eggs by 2028. We call this Vision 2028.
A few barn egg questions cracked!
What does Vision 2028 mean for us?
Back in the ‘60s our founders Carl and Peter kept free-range hens, but eggs were seasonal and very expensive. As the food industry evolved and scale production methods became common, the business grew to meet this demand.
Moving away from a cage-based system brings us back in tune with our original free-range approach, as well as the wider market. Major retailers and food companies across the UK pledge to sell only cage-free eggs by the end of 2025.
Why switch to a
barn-laid system?
What are the welfare benefits for our hens?
Barn eggs are laid by hens housed in large, climate-controlled sheds without cages. They can roam freely within the shed, socialising and perching with no threat from outdoor predators or exposure to the elements. A happy hen produces a tasty egg!
